Tim Tebow a Heisman Finalist

Yesterday, Florida Gator quarterback Tim Tebow was announced as one of the five Heisman Finalists and will be headed to New York City for the Heisman Presentation. Tim is the first player in history to be invited to the televised announcement three times, a practice which began in 1982. As most of you know, Tim won the Heisman back in 2007 as a sophomore – the first sophomore to ever win the award. Only one player in history has won the Heisman twice, Herschel Walker.

As much as I’d love to say Tim Tebow is a favorite and should win the award this year, I’m not sure he’s the front runner at this point. Last year, Tim was robbed and his performance in the National Championship game proved it. But this year it’s different. Tim doesn’t have the best numbers and the loss to Alabama certainly won’t help his chances. What Tim has over everyone are intangibles – things that can’t be measured, such as his leadership, determination and heart. There’s no denying that without Tim Tebow the Gators would be nowhere near 12-1.

“It’s a tremendous honor for Tim to be invited back to the Heisman Trophy presentation in New York City,” head coach Urban Meyer said. “This is a great achievement and he is very deserving of this honor. Tim is a special player whose leadership and character are unparalleled.”

“Having the chance to go back to New York means a lot to me,” said Tebow. “It is a special honor but it wouldn’t be possible for me to have this opportunity without my teammates and coaches.”

The winner will be announced at the Nokia Theatre in New York’s Times Square, Saturday, Dec. 12.

StiffArmTrophy.com has the current leader as Mark Ingram.

    Dear Tim,
In spite of what some are saying, you never let the Gator Nation down! You and your team mates have done nothing but make us proud this season. My husband and I looked forward to your arrival at UF and are sad to see you leave, but we know that whatever God has in store for you, you will accomplish great things for Him and His kingdom! Thank you for all the great memories and the inspiration you have been while playing for the Gators.

I’m not here to troll or anything, but just to point out a factual inaccuracy on this article… Herschel Walker most definitely did /not/ win the Heisman twice. He won it once, in 1982. Archie Griffin of Ohio State is the only person to win two, in 1974 and 1975.
