The Wonderful World of Tim Tebow

GatorSports.com posted a cool Tim Tebow article about how Timmy doesn’t want football to overshadow his other passions in life. We all know Tim is a Christian and does missionary work with every spare moment he has. TIm is always trying to lend a helping hand. He’s made it no secret that he plans to do good things in the community once his football days are done. He’s even majoring in Family, Youth and Community Services to better prepare him for the future.

So in the Gator Sports article, Tim was quoted as saying:

“If people don’t believe it, that’s fine,” Tebow said. “There’s always going to be nay-sayers, people that are going to say it’s fake. But that’s fine because you can’t control everybody. But I can control what I do, my attitude, how I approach the situation.

“How I approach the situation is I want to do everything in my power that football gives me to influence as many people as I can for the good, because that’s gonna mean so much more when it’s all said and done than just playing football and winning championships.”

I bet fans from other teams think Tim’s image and willingness to help people is all fake… just part of the show. And Tim says that there will be nay-sayers, but he doesn’t let them get to him. He’ll just keep doing what he does because that’s what’s important.

So EA’s NCAA Football 2009 came out a couple of weeks ago. In real life, current college player’s aren’t permitted to grace the cover of video games. That’s why you always see a player from the previous year on the cover (in 2009’s case… it’s Matt Ryan).

However, some people on the internet have created a way for fans to build custom video game covers. I was looking around the net for some of the game information and came across a Tim Tebow custom cover. I didn’t make this, but it sure is awesome. Even has Timmy holding his hands in prayer.

Check it out.

Today is Tim Tebow’s 21st birthday!

Turning 21 is a major milestone in someone’s life. People say you’re an adult at 18, but if you’re in college you certainly don’t feel like one. You feel like an official adult at 21. I’m not sure what Timmy will do tonight for his birthday. He’s not the drink 20 beers till you pass out type of guy. I’m sure he’ll spend it with some friends and family just having a ton of fun.

Tebow has accomplished a lot in his 21 years. A national championship, Heisman trophy, and a dozen other awards. But it’s not just the football awards that make us proud. It’s his charity and missionary work. Tim is a great guy and always looking out for other people.

If you have any birthday wishes for Tim, please drop a comment on this post. Otherwise, Happy Birthday Tim! Here’s your cake.

Want to know the details of Tim Tebow’s workout sessions? The next issue of Men’s Fitness Magazine will feature Timmy on the cover and have an indepth article all about him. It’s great exposure for the Florida Gator football team. Tebow is a marketing director’s dream. Once he hit’s the NFL he will be on more commercials then Brett Favre.

“Doing something different really gives me the opportunity to show my face, show what I’m doing to a whole new group of people,” Tebow said. “Some of them might not watch football, might not know about Florida or anything like that. It’s also in a way that’s pretty cool because there’s gonna be a lot of different people hearing about what I do and stuff like that.”

The magazine issue hits newsstands on Monday, Aug. 18. I know I’ll be picking up my copy, will you?

I was in Gainesville yesterday for the afternoon Gator Football practice. I didn’t stay but for 5-10 minutes of the actual practice, but I hung around the stadium waiting for the players to walk over to the practice field. Of course my mission was the find Tim Tebow.

It’s pretty easy to spot Tebow, not because he’s a big guy and only one of three players wearing a red jersey, but because of the mob that follows him everywhere. I’m talking kids, moms, autograph hounds and regular fans. At first sight, a bystander might think of Tim Tebow as a rude person. That’s because when he walks to practice, he doesn’t take a second to stop. Most players will stop and talk with all the fans or take pictures. Timmy just keeps on going.

He does this because if he stops he’ll get swarmed with fans. Getting his autograph isn’t that hard as long as you can get close enough. He’ll sign autographs the entire way from the stadium to the practice fields. But don’t expect him to stop to take a picture with you. Luckily, I was able to snap this shot as he walked by.

Yesterday, Tim Tebow completed his first football practice of the fall season. The first home game is just a month away. During the upcoming practices, Gator Country will be doing high-def video segments. Their first video is an interview with QB Tim Tebow after yesterday afternoon’s practice. The Heisman Trophy winner discussed how it felt to be back on the field again after a long off-season and much more.

Thank to a reader tip, I was able to find this Tim Tebow song on iTunes. It’s called The Legend of Tim Tebow by Smilin’ Tom. It’s available for download for only $0.99 so there’s no excuse for any of you not to download it. Because I can’t provide everyone with a download link, I thought it would be cool to post The Legend of Tim Tebow song lyrics. There are some awesome electric guitar breakdowns that I couldn’t put in words, but I tried my best.

Lyrics

He came out of nowhere
With an S on his chest
And so far he’s passed every test
He’s built like a wall
Disguised in clothes
You ought to see his Heisman pose

CHORUS
He can do no wrong
He’s even got his own theme song
He’s a Superman and a real nice guy
The boy next door with a bullet-proof smile
Double threat, he can run or throw
Whooaaa Whooooaaaa Tim Tebow

He looks like a rockstar
Acts like a gent
He even got a letter from the President
He’s easy to follow
Sink or Swim
Even Chuck Norris gets a kick out of him

CHORUS
He can do no wrong
He’s even got his own theme song
He’s a Superman and a real nice guy
The boy next door with a bullet-proof smile
And now it’s a name you already know
Whooaaa Whooooaaaa Tim Tebow

BREAKDOWN
His championship ring brings out the haters
Because he’s the ultimate Florida Gator!

He’s a Superman and a real nice guy
The boy next door with a bullet-proof smile
Every day we see the legend grow
Whooaaa Whooooaaaa Tim Tebow

A Superman and a real nice guy
Tim Tebow
A Superman and a real nice guy
Tim Tebow
A Superman and a real nice guy
Tim Tebow
A Superman and a real nice guy

Per GatorCountry.com, “more than $6000 and awareness was raised for six charities in the inaugural Gator Charity Challenge on Friday night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium in front of approximately 1,800 people. The fundraiser featured the 2008 Gators challenging each other in a series of strength competitions.”

Gator QB Tim Tebow participated in this event. In the picture below you can see him tossing a 30 lb medicine ball for one of the challenges. Unofficial reports have Tim Tebow being the winner of all the Stong Man Challenges. Just look at those guns!

The Florida Gators wrapped up SEC Media days yesterday. The teams usually fly in right before their press conferences and then fly right back home when they’re one. Gator Country has the entire script of the Florida press conference, so feel free to check it out. For those of you looking for only what Tim Tebow had to say, then look no further.

Tim started with his opening statement: “Well, I’m looking forward to it. You know, this off season has been great. Had a lot of fun. But I can’t wait for the season to get here. We’re very excited about it. We like our chances. We think we’ve got a lot of talent. We’re very excited and we hope that everything will turn out the way we’ve anticipated it. But you never know. It starts in a few weeks with two a days. We’re looking to get that team chemistry right, our work ethic up there. Who knows what’s going to happen, but we’re excited about this season and looking forward to all the games that are gonna come our way.”

There were also a couple of funny questions the press asked, such as “You have so many obligations. Are there days you just wish you could clone yourself?” Tebow responded, “You know, to be a hundred percent honest, some days, yes, sir. Some days you don’t feel like doing everything. Those are just the pros and cons that come with what you do and how you do it.”

More questions by media include:
Q. Do you bring the Heisman Trophy with you wherever you go?

Q. What do you think you need to do this year to get better?

Q. When you go abroad, are you always recognized?

Q. Your roommate is gone this year. Who are you rooming with this year?

If you want to find all of Tebow’s answers to these questions, you gotta check out the script. I don’t have enough room here to post them all.

The Sports Museum of America is considered the United States’ first national sports museum dedicated to the history and cultural significance of sports in America. It’s a new museum and opened just a couple of months ago in New York City. I haven’t been there yet, but judging by the pictures, it gives you a quick glimpse of what you would see at all major sports museums, but located in 1 single building.

I was browsing Flickr the other day and saw this picture of Tim Tebow posted. Someone who had visited the SMA took a photo of the Heisman Trophy exhibit… and guess who’s represented there. Timmy! Looks like they have a big board with a description, as well as, a video unit showing the ceremony.

Have any of you seen this in person?
