The Wonderful World of Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow is an inspiration to fans, players, and people in general all across the globe. And I’m not just talking about his Faith, which he publicly acknowledges and freely expresses, I’m also talking about his work with children at orphanages and how he inspires people by just playing football the right way.

Tim is truly one of the good guys out there, and playing football on a national stage gives the world an opportunity to see what he does. Without knowing it, Tebow can affect and inspire so many people but just doing what he does. Most athletes take that for granted. Most athletes don’t want to be role models and they don’t want to be looked up to. Tim is just the opposite. He wants to help, lead and inspire.

Below is an excerpt of an email I received from a die hard Tim Tebow fan. It’s letters like these that show how Tebow can touch someone’s life without every seeing or talking to that person.

Tim Tebow, I think you are the best when I get older I want to be just like you. Iam a Christian just like you and I go to church every Sunday. I play Quarterback and Linebacker for my football team and won two trophies at an award ceremony onefor team captain and one for best offensive player. I am going through a rough time because my dad is in Iraq and I miss him. My mom is holding down the fort until my dad gets back. He left in July and will be back in March hopefully. I hope you get a chance to read this and maybe I can hear from you.

For the first time in Tim Tebow’s career, his name Is being cast in a negative light. Newspapers, radio stations and websites on the internet are all talking about a possible recruiting scandal involving Coach Meyer and Tim Tebow.

Rumor has it that shortly after winning the Heisman Trohpy, Coach Meyer gave a cell phone to Timmy with recruit Carl Moore on the other line. Tebow allegedly said “I just won the Heisman. Now come on down to Florida and win a national championship with me.” Carl Moore is an outstanding junior college wide receiver from California. Every school in the nation wanted him.

Some of you may wonder what the problem is. Can’t Tim talk to someone on the phone? Well, surprising the answer is no. Players are not allowed to recruit other players, as stupid as that sounds. It gives and unfair advantage to schools that do have not superstars. Of course everything you’re reading is just allegations.  There is no proof that Tebow actually talked to Moore that night on the phone.

UF is currently conducting an internal investigation. But really if they find anything there likely won’t be any repercussions. Nothing would happen to Tebow at all.

I’ll be sure to keep everyone posted as the story develops.

We all know how quickly Tim Tebow rose to “cult status” in 2007. Millions of fans from across the country flocked to Tebow as if he were a Beatle. Dozens of fan sites popped up (including this one) and message boards were filled with posts about Tim Tebow. We all had a lot of fun with it, and Timmy himself even joked about the fun facts people associate with him. We called him Superman and we thought he could do know wrong.

Tim Tebow still has a very strong following, including myself and the hundreds of daily visitors to this blog. Not only do we love what he can do on the field, but we’re amazed at what he does off it.

My question to you today is: Do you think Tebow will be a “cult hero” in 2008? Will Timmy still be regarded so highly? Or do you think his popularity will die down now that he’s won a National Championship and a Heisman?

I tend to believe that Tebow Mania will be just as hot (if not hotter) in 2008 as it was for the 2007 season. The Gators are going to be a preseason top 5 team and a favorite to win the National Championship. This alone will keep Tebow on primetime and in the discussion to be a repeat Heisman winner. I also think he will continue to dazzle us with incredible play on the field.

2008 will be another awesome year for Tim. I predict he’ll have even more fans then before. Post a comment and tell me what you think.

The University of Florida honored Tim Tebow at Saturdays Kentucky vs. Florida basketball game during half-time. Tebow was there with his Heisman Trophy. He received a standing ovation and talked to the crowd for about 2 minutes. Below is a video of his halftime speech.

College Football News ranked Gator QB Tim Tebow as their #1 NFL prospect for the 2009 draft. Here’s an excerpt of what they had to say:

1. Tim Tebow, QB Florida (Jr.)
Think Alex Smith with talent. Tebow seems like the type who’ll want to stay for all four years, but 2009 projects to be among the worst quarterback drafts in a long, long time making the bulldozing lefty a hot prospect. He has the size, the passing accuracy, the mobility, and the makeup to become a franchise-shaper.

Being the #1 prospect is quite an honor for Timmy. However, he has come out and said several times that he would love to be a Gator for 4 years… meaning he won’t enter the NFL Draft until 2010.

No one knows for sure what Tebow will do after his junior season. A lot of it will come down to how well he performs. He’ll also be listening for advice from his family and coaching staff. Tebow is a very smart person and will make the right move. It wouldn’t at all surprise me if he was able to graduate somehow in 2009, thus accomplishing both his goals.

Tim Tebow helped bring 5-star recruit Lerentee McCray, a linebacker, to Florida. “I talk to a lot of them on occasion when I go up there,” McCray said. “I talk to the Pounceys, Brandon Spikes, Tim Tebow, Joe Haden, I talk to a lot of the guys, (Ocala’s) John Brantley of course.”

McCray had a lot of fun with Tebow during his visit and even joked about his success. “I think it is going to make me a lot better going against the Heisman winner,” McCray said. “We are also going to have media everywhere because he is a Heisman winner. Tebow taunted me a couple of times in practice when he saw me on the sideline and he was running the quarterback option. I just told him he better be ready for me.”

That is hilarious. Can’t you picture Tebow taunting a recruiting? In all seriousness though, Tebow is turning out to be one heck of a recruiter. Not only do players want to play with him, but they fear playing against him.  And not to mention all the media attention Tebow brings to the team.

All in all this is a GREAT signing for the Gators, and will help their defense develop into a top tier squad.

I just received the first “Tebow Sighting” email the other day. This comes from a UF student who happened to see Tim Tebow at Gator Corner. For those of you who are not students or alumni, Gator Corner is one of the dining halls on Campus located right by the stadium. Here’s the email:

#15 is a regular at Gator Corner Dining. I saw him eating over there twice - in
the same day. The first time, he spent a lot of time in that private dining room
that the athletes get to themselves. I saw him talking with someone else, but I
don’t know. The last thing I wanted to be was a snoop.

He was acknowledging all of the maintenance people there - what a gent.

The second time, he was out in the common area a bit more. No one struck the
Heisman pose anymore; I wonder why.

I didn’t even talk with him, deliberately. The poor guy needs a break from the
public eye.

I remember eating in there as well, and always seeing athletes go into the private dining area in the back. They also get their own special tray of food. Like real food. While the students are stuck eating the hamburgers and corndogs they always have.

If you happen to see Tebow on campus, please don’t bother him. He is an amazing guy and will talk to you if approached, but he’s also very busy so be respectful at all times.

Please contact us if you have a Tebow Sighting. It will help us pass the time during the offseason.

Since it is the off-season now, things might get a little slow around here. There is only so much Tebow news going around until Spring Practice starts up. So in order to make things fun and keep all you die hard Tebow fans coming back here for more, I thought we should start a segment called “Tebow Sightings”.

What I want you to do is contact me whenever you see Tebow on campus or out in public so we can inform other fans what he’s up to. If you know Tebow will be speaking at some function or a church, let me know. If you see Tebow at the movie theater checking out I am Legend… we want to know about it. Even if you just catch a picture of Tebow out and about, send it to us and we’ll post it.

You can easily contact us via the contact form on the Contact page at the top. You don’t need to go to your email, you can simply fill out the form and send it.

I have updated the Tim Tebow Bio page to include more information from the 2007, including the Heisman Trophy and recent bowl game loss. The college career section has also been divided up to show you 2006, 2007, and 2008 in separate sections. Be sure to check it out.

In an effort to keep Heisman winner Tim Tebow healthy, Gator coach Urban Meyer has said publicly that they will utilize more of a two-quarterback system next fall. In 2007, the Gators used backup QB Cam Cameron very seldom… if Tebow would have suffered a major injury then the Gators would have been absolutely screwed. I think what Meyer is doing here is grooming a backup quarterback to replace Tebow if he gets hurt, and also have a quarterback ready to step into the system in 2009 should Tebow leave for the NFL after his junior season.

I know a lot of Gator fans were a bit confused or upset when they heard about Meyer using two quarterbacks, but really it’s not a bad thing at all. Tebow is still the best player on the team and a Heisman Trophy winner. In 2008 we can just expect him to take a couple of plays off every now and then to help keep him healthy and fresh. If Cameron is the quarterback utilized in the two-qb system, I think we can also expect Tebow to run the ball a lot less. Cameron is a very big and strong QB who is more the capable of picking up the tough yards.

Remember, the point of it all is to preserve Tebow and keep him on the field all season. He gives the Gators the best chance at winning.
